Events: Guy Fawkes Ride (And Why You Should Do It)
(2022) We have had events come tantalizingly close to us over the years. The Bucks County Classic was exactly one block away from our first office. One year the road race portion of the same event looped past our office a few miles away. It was how we convinced out of town riders looking for a place to stay to seek out our location. Races aside, it’s hard not to get excited for Kermesse Sport’s Guy Fawkes Ride taking place right down the street from our office. Registration has been extended for this weekend’s event.
Celebrating Guy Fawkes Day with a bike ride, Kermesse Sport even managed to make November 5th (the actual day Guy Fawkes is burned in effigy) fall on a Saturday. Add in the American Daylight Saving Time the night after the ride, and there are next-to-no reasons to try this event. The event features a later start time: 11:30am for the long course; 2:00pm for the short course. The route meanders through all of our regular roads, and it couldn’t excite us more to show fellow cyclists around our area. Our area is unique for quiet roads at all hours of the day and seasons of the year. This is a great way to explore the peaceful roads of central Bucks County.
The ride is hosted by Bucks County Brewery. Its location is off of Appletree Road. That can’t get any more Bucks County than that. Since the weather is supposed to ideal, bring the family out with camping chairs and enjoy the entertainment post ride.
This year Kermesse Sport has offered a long route. This is for the cyclist looking for the ultimate Bucks County experience as it crosses through a covered bridge, passes old school houses, hammers down hardwood forest roads, and passes through areas of glacial detritus. There are a couple of coffee shops slightly off course that are worth the deviation. The long route has only one notable climb, but Kermesse was sweet enough to find a climb with a cute little switchback in it.
The short course is a great route for those looking to experience our area without the longer day out. The short course is a route we loved so much from last year, it became a regular route since. It exemplifies peaceful cycling with beautiful views.
Registration for the second annual Guy Fawkes Ride has been extended. Come out and explore the roads writers from creakybottombracket.com are often seen on. Then relax at the brew pub new ideas spring from.
