Review: La Passione’s Club Deep Winter Tights
(2023) Every road cyclist should have a set of winter tights in the closet ready for cold weather performance. Deep winter attire specifically targets the riders who go out in nearly every condition. In the northeast currently, our winter is strongly resembling a deep Spring Classics season more than a deep wintry affair. While many may dismiss the idea of deep winter kit, specifically deep winter tights, having them ready for whenever the temperature plunges can add to four season riding.
La Passione’s Club Deep Winter tights continue with the tactile quality the brand is known for. Brought on to match the summer La Passione bibs hanging in the closet, the Club Deep Winter tights encourage interaction. Next thing you know, the bibs are on, zipped, and ready to roll into unforgiving conditions. Made in Italy, the garment is magnificent to admire from top to bottom. With minimal seams, the big question was how it felt. Further, how did the garment hold up in cold weather?
Pouring oneself into La Passione Club Deep Winter tights is much like getting a wetsuit on. The fabric’s thickness is close, too. First the ankles were secure before pulling the tights up, inch by inch. Eventually the bibs were pulled to the waist before the shirt base layer was tucked in. The thick straps distributed the compression beautifully and the front zipper was closed. After a few moments of heavy breathing, the winter tights were in place.
We headed out into forgivable weather. As mentioned, the northeast is hardly cracking the freezing point. There were a handful of days where decent testing occurred, and sure enough, the bibs performed perfectly. For this rider who prefers outdoor miles over indoor trainers, La Passione’s Club Deep Winter tights were the accessory to continue outdoor miles in the darkest season. The insulation within the tights meant everything was toasty without the aid of embrocation.
There were areas that stood out and a solitary area of potential redesign. Areas that stood out were the ankle coverage as well as the snug straps. The tights came down nearly to the shoe and could contact them with a little more manipulation. As stated before, the warmth was enjoyable. With a handful of rides in cold conditions, the bibs could certainly handle harsher conditions. That’s promising for the upcoming spring rides. An area the bibs could use a second look was the bunching fabric behind the knees. A tighter cut could prevent that, though anyone worried about the loose fabric can rest easy knowing they are on one less trainer ride.
La Passione’s deep winter tights have replaced an aged pair of deep season tights. Those old tights have seen roughly ten winters of riding. They still function, but they are losing the test of time. And that’s the point about getting La Passione’s tights- this acquisition is long term. These bibs will be employed over the next ten years and beyond. With superb warmth and La Passione comfort, each cold ride will be pursued with excitement knowing we will be taken care of over the next few outdoor miles. In the meantime, we will keep our eyes to the forecast in hopes winter eventually shows up for more than an afternoon, because we have the attire to go out in the darkest season.
