Known for riding off the front of group rides only to be caught in the first mile, we got back on a road bike and realized he must win the Donut Derby at least once in his life. Regularly pledging we’re "not climbers," we can be found as a regular attendee of Trexlertown's Thursday Night Training Criterium or sitting on the couch watching Paris-Roubaix reruns. We have been constant riders of the Hell of Hunterdon in New Jersey and raced the Tour of the Battenkill.

Review: Peaty’s x Chris King (MK2) Tubeless Valves

(2022) Cycling accessories have had a transformative approach in their industry role of late. It appears companies plan a product for its intended purpose and then try to add conveniences any cyclist would want beyond that. Accessories are doubling their purpose in other areas, and UK-based Peaty’s is on board with the double service notion. They have paired with the illustrious Chris King to color match for the discerning cyclist.

Tubeless valves are one of the last items any cyclist thinks about when customizing the bike of their dreams. Though it is easily overlooked, quality valves can make a major difference in standing out. Either select conservative valves that look the part, or pick flashy valves to draw attention to the detail of customizing the bike. When it comes to basic valve stems we have felt them lacking in their role to allow air in - and out - of a tubeless system. That is, until we added Peaty’s tubeless valves.

The UK-based Peaty’s teamed up with Chris King years back to create the final flourish to any steed detail. Peaty’s, a mountain bike themed company, has created valve stems that work for road cycling as well. With the stout 60 mm selected for our deep dish wheels, the black valve stems make a quiet statement as to the detail of a tubeless system. The valves possess one striking characteristic - the aluminum dust caps are still intact and with good reason. Peaty’s has concocted a helpful system to potentially help a cyclist in any given bind.

Peaty’s Tubeless Valves feature dust caps that act as tools. On the left is the valve core pulled and the spoke wrench on the right.

Normally road cyclists unscrew the dust caps from the valve stems and toss them. End of story. Peaty’s has designed tools within their tubeless valve caps to aid in the rare situation that could end a ride. One cap is a spoke wrench; one cap is a valve core puller. Having these tiny extra tools could provide the help needed to keep a ride eventually moving along. Notably the spoke wrench is marketed for the mountain bike crowd, but for anyone who has ridden road long enough, having a miracle tool is a memorable experience.

Not that aesthetics should guide a purchase but let’s be honest, liking what is attached to the bike is an extra fifteen watts. Peaty’s x Chris King tubeless valves look great and their ease of attaching to a pump completes the whole package. Having an accessory that transforms a valve stem into a toolbox is beyond an added convenience.

The Peaty’s tubeless valves come in twelve Chris King colors and in lengths of 42 mm, 60 mm, and 80 mm. Should your road steed have a Chris King theme to it, these Peaty’s valves are the perfect addition to the bike’s presentation. Let’s just say discerning cyclists will see these valves and know they have a rider who knows quality products. Thought these valves are one of the smallest purchases a rider can make, the service Peaty’s tubeless valves could provide are worth the price tag in the end.
