Known for riding off the front of group rides only to be caught in the first mile, we got back on a road bike and realized he must win the Donut Derby at least once in his life. Regularly pledging we’re "not climbers," we can be found as a regular attendee of Trexlertown's Thursday Night Training Criterium or sitting on the couch watching Paris-Roubaix reruns. We have been constant riders of the Hell of Hunterdon in New Jersey and raced the Tour of the Battenkill.

(2022) When things seem to be going so well, sometimes there are challenges positioning themselves for immediacy. In 2019, Doylestown native Chris Baccash was racing a full schedule of top criterium races in the United States for Doylestown Bike Works. As with many people, 2020 became a challenge, but some were dealt challenges poised to test resolve. Chris Baccash was one of those people, and a twenty-seven minutes movie will tell his story at the 2022 Bicycle Film Festival taking place in person (April 28) and online from April 30- May 9 in select locations.

Without giving too much away from the documentary, Chris Baccash is diagnosed with devastating news near the start of the Covid outbreak. While many people were focused on the highly infectious time, Baccash had further stressors that dwarfed cycling. With his highly positive personality Chris Baccash focused on success and its definitions to move through his challenges.

The documentary explores the ups and downs, the realistic and aspiring of Chris Baccash’s journey. Using the mountain symbolism, there are challenges amidst going up. Cyclists know the feeling of expecting a summit only to see more elevation ahead, mystifying judgment. This is the journey of Baccash, and it is documented in just under half-an-hour.

Doylestown is home to the Bucks County Classic, a long-standing criterium race that has hosted big names in the crit racing world. At the end of the month, Doylestown’s historic County Theater will host the Bicycle Film Festival’s screening of Mountains We Climb. Ryan Canney, who created the movie, as well as Chris Baccash will be on hand for the in-person viewing option. Those interested in watching from home can do so by purchasing virtual tickets.

Attend in person or online, but rest assured, Chris Baccash’s story will put many things into perspective for anyone who watches. Come to our town to race, come to our town to ride, but especially come to our town to listen to an inspiring person and personality.
