Review: Pedal Mafia Artist Series Jersey - Cyclo Retro Pink
(2022) Pedal Mafia, the Australian- based cycling apparel company, allows artists to create yearly jerseys that reflect the pulse of the cycling community. As with fashion, preferences change, so too do the jersey art. The construction remains the same which keeps us coming back. This year’s design, the Cyclo Retro Pink jersey, had us jumping at the offer to add a simple kit to our summer wear.
Pedal Mafia Artist Series jerseys are all Italian made fabric with breathable panels. Think of many other sports jerseys and Pedal Mafia is right there with its fabrics. A polyester/ elastane combination creates a comfortable fit and a vented feel. The fabric stretches in all the areas to create a comfortable fit. The final piece of detail is found in the longer sleeves that properly come down to the top of elbows to hold everything in place. It is no coincidence this jersey has entered into regular rotation simply because of its construction.
The jersey highlights the retro feel of a bygone jersey era. One can’t help but think of the Peugeot-Michelin jerseys of the 1960s. Three rows of check patterns with the simple club name above. Simple. Timeless. Unique. The Pedal Mafia Artist Series Cyclo Retro Pink jersey stands out without doing much work. Pedal Mafia also currently offers the jersey in white to complete that throwback feel of the 1960s design.
The technical parts of the jersey carry it across the finish line. A water resistant pocket is perfect for small valuables in case rain moves in. The low collar prevents bunching up behind the neck. The care label provides an In Case of Emergency information area for the rider’s name, emergency contact number, and even blood type, The full-length zipper is easy to move up and down while riding. This was tested extensively at the Tour of the Catskills where climbs had us heating up; descents had us cooling off, an easy task on account of the generous zipper pull. For a standard jersey meant to be used as a canvas, Pedal Mafia has created one heck of a jersey.
Even if the Cyclo Retro line sells out, Pedal Mafia has maintained the same jersey build over the past few years. The Cyclo Retro Pink is the third Artist Series jersey in the closet. The first one from a few years back propelled the purchase of the pink retro. It was a bit of a jump to select the pink top over white, but its unique features and quality build makes the Pedal Mafia Artist Series jersey a great buy. If riding comfortably is a high priority, and looking good without much fanfare is a close second, the Cyclo Retro line by Pedal Mafia has the goods you’re looking for.
