Stops We Like: Fieldstone Coffee Roasters
(2020) Often products look nice or function perfectly, but usually never both - fashion over function. There are products that are fantastic yet lack an emotional connection. There are products that have great marketing only to fizzle when unboxed. When a product has great appeal and quality experience, we are immediately pulled in. That is the alluring atmosphere at Fieldstone Coffee Roasters in Ottsville, PA.
The new keyholders of the old Vera’s restaurant on route 412 - 100 yards beyond OwowCow - Kevin and Christine, owners of Fieldstone Coffee Roasters, have covered both bases. In a strange benefiting way during the pandemic, they have been remodeling while manning the Tiny Barn coffee food trailer in the parking lot. As drywall goes up within the building, nitro taps get pulled down in the food truck to order. And the whole thing couldn’t be more perfectly situated for Bucks County cyclists.
Fieldstone Coffee Roasters have big plans. While they are slinging fantastic coffee - specifically nitro coffee - they offer a menu of all day food options. Their patio seating allows for the Covid social distancing specifications. The views are hard to beat as the peaceful valley surrounds patrons. Come for coffee, stay for breakfast. Or lunch. Or snack. That’s the point of the Tiny Barn, and that is the direction Fieldstone Coffee wishes to pursue when the building renovations conclude.
To zero in on their model is to simply state they want you to stay all day. Weekend schedules feature yoga classes. Cyclists interested in starting from the parking lot can access remote northern Bucks County roads. Mountain bikers will no doubt find their way from Tower Road or the Nockamixon boat launch to Fieldstone Coffee Roasters considering the proximity to the trailheads. Park the car, ride the routes, come back for post ride coffees and food. It all sounds perfect.
Meanwhile Fieldstone Coffee Roasters have developed the merchandising approach. While we waited for our nitro pumpkin coffee to be served, we ogled the stainless steel coffee tumblers, the ceramic coffee mugs, and growlers. Kevin stated their growlers of cold brew are concentrated coffee; pour a little bit into a favorite vessel, add water, and enjoy warmer weather pick-me-ups. We inquired about the nitro handles and learned that Fieldstone Coffee Roasters offers a standard nitro coffee as well as a rotational seasonal. Expect pumpkin in the fall, coconut during the summer, and chocolate mint to bridge the gap. This has us wanting to visit the Tiny Barn directly.
While the physical location is waiting for renovation, the Tiny Barn intends to provide for the masses. Bubble tea, coffee, kombucha, cold brew, and nitro are beverages offered. Also, Fieldstone offers a menu of food options. Here is where they make the all-day experience worth it. Just today their social media featured tantalizing photos of stuffed peppers available for take-away. Got intentions to buzz the Fieldstone tower? Call ahead and they will have the food and beverages ready for you. This approach can propel an exploratory ride deeper into the northern parts of Bucks County with flavor and caffeination.
We tried the Pumpkin Nitro Coffee and found it to be heavy on the tongue and full of flavor, just the way nitro is supposed to be. The entire return ride was abstained of a water bottle for fear of flushing away the lingering flavor of pumpkin and coffee. It also gave a nice boost on the ride home. This is a new cycling location based on Kevin and Christine’s commitment to quality coffee and catchy labeling. Once the physical building is up-and-running, expect Fieldstone Coffee Roasters to be a hive of activity: customers ducking in and out, lingering scholars, yogis, and the Euro-centric cyclist will be the patrons dotting the floor. Expect to see us sipping on the seasonal nitro, ready to tackle northern Bucks, Northampton, and Lehigh County roads all because of Fieldstone Coffee Roasters.
Until the store is open, keep an eye out for the Tiny Barn, the food trailer where Kevin and Christine sling the morning espressos, coffees, bubble teas, and nitro. Expect to also find us camped out there. If one wants to ride some of the quietest Bucks County roads, here is where the ride starts and ends. As a matter of fact, we might be found sipping a pre-ride coffee from a Fieldstone mug, disappearing into country roads, and reappearing sipping a post-ride nitro. These guys have a great business model, and it’s apparent from the start.
